We need help right away. How quickly can care start?

We move as quickly as we can. In some cases care can start within a day or two, though timing depends on your loved one's needs and caregiver availability. Call us at (314) 692-0020 and we will do our best to get things moving. Wondering what to expect? Learn about our care process.

How do you make sure caregivers know what my loved one needs?

Before care begins, one of our certified nurse care managers visits your loved one at home to learn about their needs, preferences, and goals. That conversation shapes a personalized care plan that your caregiver follows from day one. As your loved one's needs change, we update the plan to stay aligned with what matters most to your family.

What can your caregivers help with?

Our caregivers help with the things that make daily life easier and more comfortable for your loved one. That includes personal care, companionship, light housekeeping, transportation to appointments and errands around St. Louis, and skilled nursing support, all guided by the care plan our nurse care manager builds with your family.

A few things fall outside of what our caregivers provide, including heavy household chores like lawn care, snow shoveling, or childcare. If you are not sure whether something is covered, just ask. We are happy to talk it through.

How soon will we have a consistent caregiver?

When care begins, our first priority is making sure your loved one has support right away. From there, we work to find the right long-term fit, taking into account personality, preferences, and schedule. It sometimes takes a few weeks to land on the best match, and we stay closely involved throughout that process, making adjustments until it feels right.

Do you have caregivers near me in St. Louis?

We serve families across the St. Louis area. Our caregivers are especially active in Clayton, Ladue, Creve Coeur, Frontenac, Huntleigh, Des Peres, Kirkwood, and Webster Groves. Not sure if we cover your neighborhood? Give us a call and we can confirm coverage or help you sort through options.

My parents have Medicare. Will that cover home care?

We are a private duty home care agency, which means we are not covered by Medicare or Medicaid. Many families use long-term care insurance, which often covers private duty care. Others pay privately. Either way, no physician's order is required to get started, so there is no waiting on approvals or paperwork.

Will your caregivers take my loved one to a doctor’s appointment, hairdresser, or grocery store?

Yes! All of our caregivers have their own vehicle and insurance, so getting your loved one where they need to go is part of what we do. Whether it's a doctor's appointment in Clayton, a favorite salon, or a grocery run, we are happy to help. We just ask for as much notice as possible so we can make sure everything is lined up.

What does it mean if my loved one needs care around the clock?

Around-the-clock care means a caregiver is always present in your loved one's home. Our caregivers work in rotating shifts, typically 12 hours, so there is always someone there day and night. Night shift caregivers remain awake throughout their shift, so your loved one is never without attentive support. It is one of the ways we help St. Louis families rest a little easier.

What if the caregiver you send is not a good match?

We put real thought into matching your loved one with the right caregiver, and sometimes that process takes a few weeks as schedules and personalities align. Like any relationship, it can take a little time to find a natural rhythm. If it becomes clear the match is not working, we will make a change. We stay closely involved and want you to feel comfortable telling us when something is not right. Getting it right matters more to us than getting it done quickly.

How do you screen your caregivers?

Every caregiver we bring on goes through a comprehensive background screening process that meets the requirements set by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. That includes checks through the Family Care Safety Registry and the Office of the Inspector General, covering criminal history, sex offender registries, employee disqualification lists, and child abuse and neglect records. We also obtain driving records from both Missouri and Illinois as applicable.

Beyond the background check, caregivers must have a minimum of three to five years of professional home care experience, complete our orientation before being placed with any client, hold current CPR certification, and maintain a clear TB test. They are also required to have a valid driver's license and their own insured vehicle.

Want to learn more? Visit our caregivers page.

Is there a minimum number of hours I have to commit to?

While there is typically a minimum requirement of four hours per shift, we can offer care for as little as one to 24 hours. The hourly rate is variable and tends to be higher for shifts under five hours. Typically, we can initiate care within a few hours of your request. You have the flexibility to modify your scheduling needs as you see fit.

Why should I choose AccuCare over other home care agencies?

We have served St. Louis families since 1994, founded and led by registered nurses who have spent decades walking alongside families through some of life's most meaningful moments. We are women-owned, locally rooted, and nurse-led from the very first call. Recognized as the Ladue News Platinum List winner in Home Health Care and named Best Home Health Care Company by St. Louis Magazine readers in 2023, we show up for the families who trust us. Every time.

How can I share my feedback?

Your feedback helps us show up better for every family we serve. You may receive a call from HomeCare Pulse, our third party feedback partner, to share your experience with us. These calls are confidential, HIPAA compliant, and will never ask for personal, financial, or health information. We only share your name and phone number with HomeCare Pulse for the purpose of gathering feedback. If something is not right, we always want to hear from you directly too. Call us at (314) 692-0020.

My parent needs more help but I don't want to put them in a nursing home. What are my options?

Home care lets your loved one stay exactly where they are most comfortable, at home or in the senior living community they already call home. Care comes to them rather than the other way around. A nursing home or skilled nursing facility requires a full move into a more structured environment. For many families, home care is what makes staying home possible for much longer than they expected.

I need help at home for my loved one but I'm not sure what it costs. Where do I start?

Every situation is a little different, and the cost depends on what your loved one needs and how many hours of support make sense. We'd love to talk through it with you. Give us a call at (314) 692-0020 and we can figure out what works.

Who do I call with concerns or questions?

We are here every weekday from 8 am to 4:30 pm and happy to help with questions about your care, scheduling, and billing. If we miss your call, just leave us a message at (314) 692-0020 and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
