Dementia Care
Caring for a loved one with dementia is one of the most challenging and deeply personal things a family can navigate. At AccuCare Home Health Care, we have been walking alongside St. Louis families through memory care challenges since 1994. Our role is to show up with patience, consistency and genuine compassion so your loved one feels safe and your family feels supported.
Our Approach to Dementia Care
Before care begins, one of our nurses conducts an assessment to understand your loved one's routines, preferences and current needs. From there we thoughtfully build a care plan and select a caregiver who is a good fit for your loved one's personality and daily rhythm.
Routine and consistency matter deeply for someone living with dementia. Our caregivers follow a familiar schedule and show up the same way every visit, creating a sense of predictability that brings comfort. When moments of confusion or frustration arise, our caregivers respond with patience and calm, following the care plan and keeping the environment steady.
Our caregivers are attentive and present throughout every visit, taking their cues from your loved one and adjusting naturally to how they are feeling that day.
The Connections Bag Program
For families looking for a deeper level of engagement, ask us about our Connections Bag program. A dedicated engagement advocate and a personalized activity kit built around your loved one's interests and abilities. It is a thoughtful way to support meaningful connection and bring genuine moments of joy to the day.
Keeping Family in the Loop
You will never be left wondering. Our caregivers are attentive to changes in behavior or condition and report anything significant to our nursing team, who stay closely involved throughout the care relationship and communicate with families when something occurs. If your loved one's needs shift, we adjust the care plan accordingly and make sure you are informed every step of the way.
FAQ's
Do your caregivers have experience with dementia? All AccuCare caregivers complete our orientation program before being matched with clients, which includes training on working with clients living with dementia. From there we carefully select each caregiver based on personality, temperament and fit for your loved one specifically.
How do you handle behavioral changes? Our caregivers respond with patience and calm, following the care plan and keeping the environment steady. When significant changes occur, caregivers notify our nursing team who stay closely involved and communicate with families throughout.
What if my loved one eventually needs to transition to a memory care community? AccuCare can continue providing familiar caregiver support in a memory care setting, offering a consistent presence through what can be a difficult transition.
Does AccuCare require a physician's order to start dementia care at home? No. AccuCare is a private pay service, which means families can start without a referral or physician's order. When you are ready to talk, we are here.
As Needs Evolve
We support clients with dementia at home for as long as home care is the right fit. If the time comes for a transition to a memory care community, we can continue providing familiar caregiver support in that setting, offering a consistent presence through what can be a difficult change. We layer in what is needed over time, with a nurse involved throughout. We grow with you.
